Description
ATA Employment Solutions is accepting applications for a Mortgage Underwriter. This is a remote position. The Mortgage Underwriter is responsible for providing loan decisions based on credit history, financial position, and strength of collateral. Qualified individuals must have thorough knowledge of State and Federal residential lending regulations.

Job Type: Full-time, Exempt
Salary: $50,000-$90,000 annually depending on experience plus incentives

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide a complete and thorough analysis of loan files to determine compliance with FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA, RD, and State Housing guidelines.
  • Maintain a well-developed knowledge of loan product guidelines and industry regulations, including assisting in the prevention, detection, and resolution of mortgage fraud.
  • Review and analyze appraisals for value and compliance in accordance with industry requirements.
  • Communicate with appraisers on corrections or changes and supplemental information.
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently make sound decisions based on the credit worthiness of the applicants based on established underwriting guidelines, Bank policies, procedures, knowledge, and experience.
  • Provide exceptional customer care (both internal and external) in a manner that satisfies individual needs of each customer and builds loyalty to Bank.
  • Respond to post-closing, insuring and audit reviews in a timely manner; communicate loan decision to appropriate parties both orally and/or in writing. Positively promote Bank within the community.
  • Review and clear conditions.
  • Communicate to Loan Originator and Processor via calls or emails related to loan products, underwriting guidelines, loan scenarios, file statuses, etc.
  • No supervisory responsibilities.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of three (3) years mortgage underwriting experience.
  • DE-CHUMS ID, VA-LAPP and USDA-GUS experience required.
  • Extensive knowledge of State and Federal residential lending regulations.

Work Environment:

  • May require prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Hours of work may be outside the standard workday.
